Your headshot is more than just a photo—it’s your digital handshake, your first impression, and a key part of your personal brand. Whether you're an entrepreneur, corporate professional, or creative, a polished and professional headshot can set you apart and build trust before you even say a word.

Why Your Headshot is Your Digital Handshake

In today’s digital world, your online presence speaks volumes. Your headshot is often the first thing people see on LinkedIn, business websites, social media, and even email signatures. A high-quality image conveys confidence, approachability, and professionalism—helping you make a strong first impression.

The Difference Between a Selfie & a Professional Headshot

We all love a good selfie, but when it comes to your professional image, quality matters. A professional headshot:

  • Uses proper lighting to highlight your best features

  • Ensures flattering angles and composition

  • Has high resolution for use across different platforms

  • Projects credibility and confidence

A well-done headshot isn’t just a picture—it’s an investment in your personal brand.

How to Choose the Right Look for Your Industry ✨

Your headshot should reflect your industry and professional style. Here’s how to tailor your look:

  • Corporate & Business Professionals: Opt for classic attire like a suit or blouse in neutral or deep tones.

  • Creative & Entrepreneurial Fields: Show some personality! Layer textures, add a pop of colour, or bring in elements that reflect your brand.

  • Personal Branding & Social Media Influencers: Keep it natural and engaging. A friendly smile and lifestyle approach work well here.

What to Wear & How to Prep for Your Headshot Session

  • Stick to solid colours or small patterns — large prints and patterns can be distracting in the photos

  • Avoid Fully black tops — I can't tell you how often I hear that people want to "avoid a double chin" and "look slim" for their headshots... one of the best ways to support that is by avoiding fully black tops. Black absorbs light, instead of reflecting it- and the best way to have a soft and balanced face in photos is LIGHT... you want the clothing you are wearing to support that. Black isn't the enemy, don't get me wrong- but if you are going with black- add a contrasting colour in there for some dimension.

  • Avoid busy accessories- large statement accessories can draw the focus away from your face... we want the camera to show YOU and for your clients to see who you are!

  • Grooming matters! Get a fresh haircut, trim facial hair, and keep makeup natural.

  • Rest up the night before and hydrate for a fresh, glowing look.

  • Relax and have fun! A great headshot session captures your true personality. It's my job to help you capture that in your headshots, try not to stress!

How Often Should You Update Your Headshot?

Your headshot should always reflect your current look. You know it may be time for a new headshot if:

  • Your appearance has changed significantly (new hairstyle, weight change, glasses, etc.)

  • You’ve changed industries or taken on a new role within your company

  • Your old headshot is more than 2-3 years old
